FAQs
Here are some answers to our most asked questions about YPW student life
Does my child need to know Spanish to enroll?
No. We welcome both beginners and fluent Spanish speakers. Children naturally acquire the language through immersion, songs, play, and daily interactions.
What ages do you serve?
YPW serves infants (6 weeks) through elementary (K–5). We also offer afterschool programs, seasonal camps, workshops, and tutoring for older students—even adults.
Where are YPW campuses located?
We have four campuses: two in Central-North Austin and two in the Westlake area not far from downtown Austin. All offer the same accredited programs in nurturing, bilingual environments.
What makes YPW different from other schools?
YPW is an accredited Spanish immersion school that follows a whole-child approach. We combine rigorous academics with creativity, play, and character development—helping children thrive in two languages.
How do I apply?
The process is simple:
- Submit an interest form online.
- Schedule a tour.
- Complete the application and submit documents.
- Receive confirmation and next steps.
When can I apply?
Enrollment is rolling, but spots are limited. We recommend starting the process early—especially for infants and early preschool.
Is there a waitlist?
Yes. If a class is full, we maintain a waitlist and will notify families as soon as a spot opens.
Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
Yes, we partner with the city of Austin to offer scholarships to qualified families. We also provide flexible payment plan options. Please contact admissions for details.
What are the tuition and fees?
Tuition varies by program (infant, preschool, elementary, afterschool, camps). A tuition and fees schedule is available through our admissions office.
Will learning Spanish interfere with my child’s English?
No. Research shows bilingual immersion strengthens English literacy and critical thinking. Many YPW graduates perform above grade level in English as well.
How is English introduced?
In the early years, children are immersed primarily in Spanish. English is gradually introduced through reading, writing, and cross-language transfer as they grow older.
What subjects are taught in Spanish?
Core subjects like literacy, math, science, and social studies are taught in Spanish. Art, music, and movement are also integrated into the immersion experience.
How do teachers support children new to Spanish?
Teachers use visuals, gestures, repetition, and hands-on activities to ensure understanding. Students quickly pick up Spanish naturally, just like a first language.
What is the student-to-teacher ratio?
Infants: 3:1. Toddlers: 5:1. Preschool & Pre-K: 8–10:1.
What is the daily schedule like?
Each program blends structured learning with free play, music, movement, outdoor time, and meals/snacks. Specific schedules are shared during tours.
Do you provide meals?
Families pack lunches and snacks. YPW encourages healthy, nut-free foods and water bottles for hydration.
Do students wear uniforms?
Early Learners and Preschool students don’t wear uniforms. We encourage comfortable, play-ready clothes. Students in YPW Spanish Elementary do wear uniform. Specific uniform guidelines are shared during tours.
Is transportation provided?
No, parents are responsible for drop-off and pick-up. However, some afterschool programs include supervised bus transfers from nearby schools.
How can parents get involved?
Parents are welcome to volunteer in classrooms, share cultural traditions, help at events, or join parent committees.
Are there family events?
Yes! Cultural celebrations, seasonal performances, parent workshops, and milestone events are central to our school community.
How does YPW communicate with parents?
We use email, parent portals, and teacher updates. Families also receive newsletters and invitations to school events.
