YPW — Screen Media & Technology Policy

Learning Beyond Screens

At YPW, we believe children learn best through hands-on exploration, movement, and relationships—not through passive screen time. Our intentional approach to technology ensures that children develop curiosity, creativity, and focus in age-appropriate ways.

Screen-Free in the Early Years

   Ages 0–6

Classrooms are screen-free to honor the “absorbent mind” stage of development. Children learn best through movement, sensory play, music, and language.

Technology is introduced intentionally and minimally—for research, presentations, or projects—always guided by teachers.

This balance ensures that children develop social-emotional skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities without over-reliance on screens.

Why It Matters

Excessive screen time in early childhood is linked to challenges with attention, sleep, and social development. By delaying and carefully curating digital exposure, YPW helps children

Strengthen focus and imagination

Build rich face-to-face communication skills

Foster independence and problem-solving through play

Backed by Research

Our approach follows expert guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Screen Time Action Network, which recommend screen-free early learning environments and intentional, balanced technology use in later years.
