Some of the things the campers learned while in camp
The following are some of the topics the campers were inspired to write:
- Poetry and Songs
- Write about an animal and how it feels to be like that animal
- Animal Monologues
- Think of a person that is like that animal and write a paragraph about them
- Write a song comparing the animal to how a person makes you feel
- Write a story about you and your daily life
Because writers get much of their material from their own lives and the lives of the people who come into their worlds, young people talked about types of questions and follow up questions, the importance of not only listening but also really hearing what people say. Campers discussed the importance of exploring the vagaries of mood and emotion and the ways to recognize emotion in people’s faces and body language. Campers listed to various tales and short stories as inspiration for their own writings.
